Meningococcal B vaccination recommended from 2024

Since January 2024, STIKO (German vaccination commission) has recommended a vaccination against meningococcal serogroup B, for all infants and children under 5 years of age. Meningococci are bacteria that can cause meningitis – a very rare disease that unfortunately usually takes a severe course and is sometimes fatal.

Babies should be vaccinated at the age of 2, 4 and 12 months; older children under 5 years of age receive two or three catch-up vaccinations, depending on their age. We will be happy to provide you with further information about meningococcal disease and meningococcal vaccination.

Unfortunately, direct coverage through the statutory health insurance funds is still not possible at the moment (early November 2024), as negotiations are still ongoing. However, the health insurance funds are obliged to reimburse you for the cost of the vaccination.

If you would like your child to be vaccinated, please contact us. We will then issue you with a private prescription for the vaccine, which you can bring with you to the appointment. You will pay in advance for the vaccine (approx. €120) and for the vaccination service provided by us (approx. €40) and then submit the invoices to your health insurance company for reimbursement.

As soon as the invoice can be paid directly via the insurance card and we have the vaccine in stock at the practice, we will let you know here on the website.
